## Strong hooks
Clarity
- Be extremely clear with your writing
- Clarity over cleverness
Three main questions the hook has to answer:
- Who are the characters
- Normally the people we're watching on screen - can they achieve whatever the video is about?
- What is the concept
- What are we going to be seeing? What will the characters attempt?
- What is at stake
- What do they stand to gain/fail if they win/lose?
Payoffs
- There's an ultimate payout/question in the video, but the building blocks towards that ultimate payoff are mini payoff loops in itself
Common mistakes
- Not having or being clear on what the big question/payoff really is
First step for script:
- Freeflowing ideas / brainstorming (it's okay to delete most of this)
- Don't worry much about the hook just freeform some ideas
Common retention killers:
- When the payoff is given before the context

How to identify payoffs:
- Highlight them in your script
