Two main types of risk ## Product risk Can I build it? Can I grow it? - Page views and advertising networks - getting results for clients that pay you to do XYZ - affiliate networks Basically product risk is a product that if it works, it’s obvious people will want it - it’s almost like a no brainer, free money idea. The big risk if whether you can get the results or not. ## Customer / market risk Do they want it? Will they pay me? Is there enough of them? - Businesses that solve niche problems, SaaS, etc If they don’t want it, they won’t pay. If they want it and they’ll pay, but there’s not enough of them, your TAM will be too small to be worth it (think rib.gg lol) ## Know the difference If your line of questioning seems like it’s leading them down the path of “do you want free money?” then you’re probably dealing with Product Risk. When something is pure product risk, questions almost don’t even make real sense anymore, because the answers are obvious. The big thing you’d ask about is whether or not there are any other risks involved, i.e adversity to switching technologies, or on-boarding to something new, etc etc.
